Refining and chemical integration is to establish a joint refinery and petrochemical enterprises, enterprises refining, chemical and refined oil marketing comprehensive integration of the process, its core is to achieve the plant process and overall layout of the integration and optimization. With the separation model of refining and chemical, refining and chemical integration has three main advantages.

Advantage 1: refining and chemical integration can effectively integrate resources and realize the optimal allocation of resources. From the beginning of the oil head, the crude oil processing process from different sources should be rationally allocated, so as to achieve "oil is suitable for oil, oil is suitable for fragrance, and oil is suitable for ene", which effectively improves the comprehensive utilization rate of resources.

Advantage 2: refinery integration can significantly improve the main economic and technical indicators of refinery. For example, ethylene cracking raw materials can be solved by the refinery itself, so that ethylene cracking raw materials can be supplied with high quality, stability and reliability. In particular, ethylene raw materials can become lighter and the yield of ethylene can be greatly increased after full utilization of refinery dry gas resources.

Advantage 3: the integration of refining and chemical engineering realizes the sharing of public works and auxiliary works, which greatly reduces investment, saves costs and improves the utilization efficiency of public works.

At present, China has successively developed a variety of integration models, such as oil refining aromatics integration, oil refining ethylene aromatics integration, oil refining power generation steam integration and so on. Petroleum refining and chemical enterprises have shifted from producing large quantities of refined oil and bulk petrochemical raw materials to producing more high-value-added oil and high-quality petrochemical raw materials. Moreover, the Chinese government requires the construction of new oil refining projects in accordance with the integrated layout of refining and chemical industry, strictly controls the increase of oil refining capacity, promotes the withdrawal of backward and inefficient oil refining capacity, and encourages the development of new chemical materials and special chemicals.
